Chandigarh, July 1: Doctors are the second God on the earth and I salute all Doctors who are continuously fighting against COVID-19 on frontline & providing excellent services to curb this Epidemic. Due to their services, Punjab becomes leading State in our country who successfully curtailed the spread of Corona virus. These views were expressed by the Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu on the occasion of National Doctor’s Day.

Mr. Sidhu while congratulating the Doctors on this day said, “This year importance of National Doctor’s Day 2020 increased when every doctor is giving its hundred percent efforts to fight this corona virus pandemic. They all are contributing invaluable services during these times to make people recover from this dreadful infection”.

The Health Minister stressed on the role of the doctors who are serving in the government sector, in this pandemic when all the private institutions stopped working for some time, but government doctors worked day and night in battle against this disease and served the society. With their tireless efforts Punjab has a recovery rate of around seventy percent which is well above the national average and I salute their dedication towards their profession.

While recognising the importance of doctors, we are certainly learning just how much they contribute to society, amid the corona virus Pandemic. While we are self-isolating, it is the doctors who are constantly fighting for the lives of people who have been infected with the deadly virus.

Divulging about the National Doctor’s Day, he said that this day is celebrated in the memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a former Chief Minister of West Bengal and a well-known physician. He was born on July 1, 1882 and died on the same date in 1962, aged 80 years. Dr Roy was honoured with the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, on February 4, 1961. In 1991, India started celebrating the National Doctor’s Day in honour of Dr Roy as a great physician.
