Chandigarh, 24.08.2021: Showing gratitude and declaring proactive and revolutinary step of hiking State Assured Price (SAP) for Sugarcane to Rs 360 Member of Rajya Sabha and Former PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa thanks the Government of Punjab, especially Chief Minister Captain Amarinder. At the meeting today hosted by Captain Amarinder Singh with representatives from Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the Chief Minister announced a hike of Rs. 50 per quintal of sugarcane for the 2021-22 season. The sugarcane farmers in Punjab now receive the highest SAP across the nation. Cane growers in Punjab will now earn an additional Rs.
300 crores.
This will benefit one lakh families and around ten lakh people in the State. I was present at the meeting along with my Parliamentary colleague Sardarani Preneet Kaur. S. Balbir Singh Sidhu (Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Punjab) and S.Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa (Minister for Cooperatives, Punjab) were present along with their MLA colleagues, Raj Kumar Verka, Fatehjang Singh Bajwa, Rana Gurjit Singh, Balwinder Singh Laddi and Santokh Singh Bhalaipur. The farm unions were represented by S. Balbir Singh Rajewal, Shamsher Singh Rau and other kisan leaders.
By taking such action, the Government has listened to the needs of our farmers and for this I am grateful. It is my hope that going forward that the Government will review the prices annually keeping in mind the rising costs of production. An incremental increase would ensure that sugarcane farming in the State is sustainable and aid in the crop diversification efforts of the Government of Punjab.
